Kids who grow up in a household where fitness and healthy eating are a norm are most likely to bring these habits with them as they become adults.
Don’t fret though if your family is just starting to make a lifestyle change. Even with today’s fast-paced living, you can still find ways to be fit and healthy as a family. Here are some ways on how you can do that:
- Do chores together
Fitness doesn’t have to be complicated. If you just want to get started, doing chores together can be a good start.
Make it fun by creating small teams and having fun challenges like who gets to clean better and faster.
- Involve everyone in meal planning and prepping
Involving everyone (including your little ones) in meal planning and prepping promotes a more positive connection to different types of food. Plus, involving your kids in the kitchen is a great way to teach them an essential skill in life.
- Get everybody to do something moving
Bored with your usual walk around the neighborhood? Then why not try cycling or rollerblading? It’s fun and it gets everyone moving.
- Have a dance party
Create a playlist of songs that everyone can dance and start the party!
Not a fan of dancing? No worries! Just keep moving, even if it means just following each other’s moves. The most important thing is that you’re doing it with your family and it keeps you moving.
- Turn TV commercials into fitness games
Watching TV isn’t really bad. It’s doing too much of it and having a poor diet that causes many Americans, especially kids, to get obese.
Take activities like this to squeeze in fitness. Make it fun by creating names for squats or sit-ups from their favorite TV shows. You’ll be surprised how much you can do by moving during commercials.
