Spine Injections

If you’ve been suffering from neck or back pain, you know how frustrating it is to take anti-inflammatory medications only to experience very little or worse, no relief at all.

Ozark Orthopaedics offers spine injections, a non-invasive and more lasting pain relief option for neck and back pains.

About Spinal Injections

Spinal injections can be used for diagnosing and treating pain.

Spinal injections for diagnosing

As a diagnostic tool, it can help determine the source of pain felt in the neck, arms, back, and legs.

Initially, the doctor takes your medical history and performs a thorough physical assessment. He will then inject a pain-killing medication on the suspected site. If it relieves the pain, then it confirms the diagnosis.

Spinal injections as part of a treatment plan

For pain relief, spinal injections offer more lasting effects than conventional anti-inflammatory drugs. Administered to the precise source of pain, these injections are usually a part of a comprehensive therapeutic plan. The medical team may still recommend doing physical therapy to strengthen the supportive muscles and consequently, improve mobility.

Below are some of the most common spinal injections used for pain relief:

Epidural injection
This relieves pain and inflammation from a herniated disc or disc radiculitis.

Facet joint injection
This alleviates pain felt in the neck, middle, and lower back as a result of injury or degenerative spine condition.

Sacroiliac joint injection
As its name implies, this injection is for relieving pain felt in the lower back, buttocks, and legs (the sacroiliac joints are found between the sacrum and pelvic joints).

Depending on the cause of your pain, you may need three or four sessions of spinal injections in a year to help manage the pain. If you want to find out if spinal injections would benefit you, call us. We would be happy to answer your queries and/or concerns.
